Who are dream characters?
I have really been giving this question really thought. As far as I can deduce there are two types of dream characters... those that are made up by my subconscious and complete strangers that I have never met, it's this latter group that really intrigues me.
The dream characters that which I believe that are made up by my subconscious are people that I know, like family members, friends and people I have met, seen or have known. On the whole their behaviors seem to be rather predictable as I would expect in waking life (apart from the odd occasion when they totally ignore me).
The dream characters that are complete strangers leave me bemused; could they also be made up by my subconscious, somehow I doubt it? The detail is amazing, they all have distinct personalities and I have no recollection of ever meeting/seeing them before. In a recent dream I asked one of these dream characters who they were and whether they knew that they were a character in my dream, this seemed to annoy her and she stopped speaking to me!
I am usually very skeptical, and really do not believe in the supernatural or things that cannot be proven scientifically. I am a firm believer in theory, test and evidence. But because of the nature of my experiences, I am really beginning to consider the fact that there could be a possibility of a universal dreamscape. This would mean that some of my dream characters are actual beings asleep somewhere in the Universe or maybe this is evidence of the existence of a universal consciousness.
I know what I suggest may sound totally ridiculous to some of you, but I intend to do a lot more research on this topic and post my findings, in the mean time please leave a comment below and let me know what you think.

Calea Zacatechichi - The dream herb
I have just dropped the kids off to their mothers after they had dinner at mine. I love them so dearly. I have done all the chores and have a few minutes to spare so I thought I’d tell you about Calea Zacatechichi (CZ).
Now before I begin I should tell you that I am not one for taking any kind of illegal drug, I am totally against all that. However on my quest to lucid dreaming I stumbled on this herb CZ. I have done a lot of research on CZ and what I have found is as follows:
CZ is commonly known as THE lucid dreaming herb because of it's ability to induce vivid dreams. Amongst other herbs, CZ has been used for thousands of years by the indigenous Chontal Mexicans and before that the Native Americans and before them the Mayans it has been used to induce highly vivid and meaningful dreams, as far as I can tell It has no known side effects on waking life. (One thing I should mention though is that every website, book and video; states that CZ is very, very, very bitter when drank., so much so that It can induce vomiting. So be warned)
CZ is known to raise self-awareness and promote lucidity, besides providing a thrilling dream experience even if you don't become lucid. The beauty is that this herb is legal, well legal apart from in two states in America (Louisiana and Tennessee). CZ can be smoked and ingested either by making it into tea or crushed and consumed via gel capsules. After exhaustive research I have found out the best way to take it is as follows:

- Before going to bed make the CZ tea. (Add a hand full of leaves to 1 cup of boiling water and simmer for about 15 minutes… Strain out the leaves and pour into a cup… a couple of spoons of honey helps with the bitter taste)
- Crush some CZ and roll it into a cigarette.
- Go to bed and set your alarm to go off in three to four hours time (REM sleep starts kicking in after this amount of sleep)
- When the alarm goes off wake up, drink the tea, then before going back to bed, smoke the CZ cigarette.
The end of a dry spell!
I had a terrible dry spell… it’s been a month since I had my first lucid dream! I did what I normally did, reality checks during the day, started updating my dream journal on a daily basis, but still nothing. It did get frustrating actually. The only thing that I had changed was I started going to the gym!
Well the good news is the dry spell came to and end last night… In the dream I was walking down a corridor of what looked liked a museum, Again I was walking with Allan (my brother who lives in Australia) and William (my eldest son). As I walked past one of the displays I noticed a little lion. I stopped and walked back to the display, indeed there was a small little lion, the size of a small mouse! I shouted at Allan and William to come have a look, they came over and saw it but did not seem that astonished. It is then that I asked myself. “Could I be dreaming” I did a reality check and I had 8 fingers! Oh my God I thought, I am lucid dreaming.
I thought of convincing the dream characters (the people I was with) to the fact that I was dreaming, but could not be bothered as I had tried that before and ended up wasting valuable lucid time. Instead I ran to the end of the corridor and pushed open a set of double doors. In front of me was a beautiful scene, there were beautiful old buildings all around and directly in front of me lay a massive river with boats on it. I think I was in Bruges (Belgium).
I walked by the riverside for a while admiring the boats and the architecture of the buildings, things seemed a little blurry! I then had an idea of trying to fly… I imagined taking off into the sky like Neo did in the matrix, but as much as I tried I just could not do it! So I decided to take a long run then jump, which I did! Wow, I was now floating just over the ground… on my second attempt I tried to jump over the river (which now looked twice as wide as it did before), I took a massive jump and landed on a boat, another jump and I wan in front of a beautiful entrance of a hotel! I walked through the doors, and I ended up in bed!
It was not my current bed, but my old bed in the family home! On it lay my to boys and my ex wife, the children were sleeping close to their mother, I got up quietly but my youngest son noticed; he raised a hand as if for me to hold him, but I ignored this... I sat on the side of the bed and opened my eyes. All this time it seemed that I was lucid dreaming with my eyes closed or not wide open. What I could see now was beautiful, the colours, the clarity of everything was astonishing. I was looking out of the bedroom window at some trees and I have to say it is the most beautiful sight I have ever seen.
I then left the room and woke!
What a wonderful experience!

My first lucid dream
I have been trying to become lucid in my dreams for quite a while now (6 months). I kept a dream journal but because I am divorced with two children… I found it hard to keep the journal updated every morning. I started doing reality checks during the day, simple things like counting the fingers on my hands and trying to push my right hand through my left palm. I did not have any success, until the other night!
In my dream I was standing in a toilet ready to take a leak, and the strangest thing is that the there were two toilets, I flushed one and the other flushed too. I then looked down at my privates, and I had two! Wow I thought how strange, I then looked at my left hand and counted my fingers I had 6 or 7, but they were quite a blur! I then knew I was dreaming!
I walked into the next room and my family was there, including my brother who lives in Australia (Allan)! I then tried to convince Allan that I was lucid dreaming; He was having none of it… I thought by pushing my right hand through my left palm would convince him, so I tried, at first I failed! I just could not do it, I then tried slowly, and bang! My hand went right through, there was a bit of blood and my fingers came out in different angles on the other side! There was no pain! Allan found this disgusting, but he still remained unconvinced. I then noticed that Allan and the whole family were watching something on a television positioned high on a corner of a wall. I asked Allan if I could tell him what was going to happen next on the program they were watching, would he believe me? He agreed! I then tried to go forward in time with the idea of watching the film in the future then coming back and telling him what was going to happen! When I tried to do this… I woke up! I tired to get back to sleep, but could! So I did a reality check to see that I did not have a false awakening! And I was truly awake!
It was a truly amazing experience, everything was seemed so real! I wished it lasted longer though; the whole experience seemed like only a couple of minutes.
